2006 Midwinters

The second annual 110 Midwinters were held March 3-5, hosted by the Davis Island Yacht Club in Tampa Florida. Sadly, no one from Fleet 54 was present. A group of boats from the mid-west made the treck, though. Hopefully there will be more boats next year. I have not been able to find any photos yet but maybe we can get a couple from those who attended.

And now for something completely different

Yeah I know it's not a 110 but the 210 is a close second in the looks department. Here is a picture of the newest 210 on the planet #462. The 210 Class announced the selection of Shaw Yacht, Inc. of Thomaston, Maine to build the new boats back in the fall. 462 is currently under construction and will be race ready by May 1, 2006. Bernie Shaw is a renowned builder of one design yachts, including Maine's 2005 Boat of the Year, the Dark Harbor 20, the classic Wianno Senior, and the InterClub Dinghy. The deck and grid are installed, the seat cleats are in and the interior has been coated with grey gel coat. This new boat carries a base price of $28,000 making it one of the most affordable one design racing keel boat on the market.

Is anyone up for a midnight raid on Westease to liberate the 110 molds? If Bernie can make a 210 for $28K I wonder how much a new 110 would go for?

2006 Friday Night Series

The Fleet 54 2006 Friday night series will start on June 2nd and run through September 8th. That's 15 nights of quality racing and unparalleled socializing we have to look forward to. Everyone in the fleet should make an effort to head to Ida Lewis after racing this summer to show our support for Ida providing a race committee every week. This will also get us in front of the dinner crowd and you never know if there is a future 110er lurking in that bunch. Finishing our last race off the porch of the club has been good for our image.

Finally I would like to thank Josh for volunteering to be fleet secretary again this year. Please direct all scoring questions his way.
