Mark Your Calendars! (updated again)

Fellow hibernating 110ers, it’s time to mark your calendars for the fast approaching summer. Now’s the time to tell all of your friends and family that you can’t go to what’s-his-names wedding because you made plans back in January to go race your 110 on that weekend. We are planning to hold the schedule to one regatta a month (except August) so people will still have time to mow their lawns, race on other boats, fly kites, skip stones, or do whatever normal people do in the summer. Here are the confirmed dates we know so far.

2006 110 Racing Schedule
March 3-5 Mid-Winters at Davis Island YC, Tampa, FL
July 8-9 Newport Regatta, Sail Newport
August 7-11 Nationals at Ida Lewis YC, Newport, RI
August 26-27 Hull YC, Hull, MA
September 23-24 New England’s at Portland, Maine

Mainsail Rule part 2

Many people (too many for me to list and not forget somebody) put a lot of effort in and did a great job to get the new mainsail rule together and passed. Over 100 emails later we have a rule that makes sense. Check below under the first mainsail rule post and read the rule as it's written in the comment section. Many boats in Fleet 54 are having sails made here in town and been working closely with the sailmakers. Expect to see some new rule main's in the coming months (maybe by the Mid-Winter's). Stay tuned.

Classic Yachts at 110 Nationals?

Ok people I would like to hear everyone's opinion on an idea that has been kicking around for a little while. How about we offer a "classic" division at the Nationals this year? This could be a great way to get more boats on the line. This will be a division that will give the wooden spar, non-updated, non-spinnaker boats a place to compete. My inital thoughts would be to have everyone start at the same time but have shorter weather legs for the classic boats. Please leave your thoughts and comments below.

Cheers,

Oakley

Nationals only 9 months away!

So it’s freezing cold and these huge snowflakes the size of cocktail napkins just started to fall outside my window. Most people are thinking skiing but as I sit here looking at the snow a smile creeps to my face knowing that the 2006 110 Nationals are only a short 9 months away. Fleet 54 is hosting this years Nationals and it’s already shaping up to be a great event. The Newport fleet members have been working non-stop since last year to put on a world class event with outstanding race management and unparalleled socializing. In the coming months I will be contacting most known 110ers in the surrounding area to hound them into coming to Nationals. If you know of a 110 Alumni who hasn’t been in a 110 in a while give them a call or pass their email on to me. We can get 30+ boats on the line, I know we can. Can we get some of the New Jersey guys to come up? How about the Lake Alexander Tribe? Let’s make it happen.

Cheers,

Oakley
